FIRST VISIT

We want to make your smile more beautiful and healthy.

The first step in this process is a consultation and examination during which Dr. determine your orthodontic condition. If treatment is necessary, we will indicate a specialized laboratory to make the records necessary. These records include X-rays, photographs and study models of the bite, and the Doctor will assess individual needs to determine the best type of treatment. Once the diagnosis is made, another appointment shall be scheduled, so that the Doctor can explain the treatment to follow, the type of equipment that will be placed and talk about the budget and payment. It is possible that in that same appointment, the doctor may start placing the equipment and giving instructions on brushing, flossing, eating habits and care of the brackets.

While on treatment, the doctor will continue to thoroughly discuss all procedures and treatment options with you. We want you to fully understand all aspects of your treatment and to feel comfortable and relaxed while in our care.

In addition to improving oral health, orthodontic treatment will give you confidence as a result of a healthy, attractive smile. You will be surprised how cheap this great investment can be. The Doctor will discuss with you the best payment plan according to your budget.

There are very few orthodontic emergencies. Most problems can be remedied at home. However, if you have a situation that you cannot resolve, call us immediately to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the following may help to resolve minor problems you could encounter during your orthodontic treatment:

It is important to regularly check your braces to see if there are wires and brackets bent or loose. In the event that a wire or bracket is broken, damaged or loose, call the office immediately to schedule an appointment for repair and spare you any discomfort.

TOOTHACHE

If your teeth are sore after an appointment... You can take some pain reliever not containing acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin). We recommend you take Motrin 600 mgs, or Tylenol, while you get used to your new braces. Hot water fomentation or hot water rinses with salt, help reduce the inflammation of your gums.

IRRITATION CAUSED BY THE WIRE

If the wire is bothering you, if you feel that it stings or scrapes, try moving the wire from the irritated area with a cotton or a pencil eraser. If the wire is not moving, try covering the excess end of the wire with a small cotton, or orthodontics wax. If you do not have anything in your household, you can cover it with chewing gum while you go to the office. If discomfort persists, call the office, explain the problem and ask for an appointment.

BRACKET DETACHED OR LOOSE

If a bracket comes off or you feel it loose... First, call the office to schedule an appointment, a bracket off may delay the processing time, if you have discomfort in the area of the loose bracket, use some wax to cover as you go to your appointment.

LOSS OF A SEPARATOR

If you lose a separator .... Call the office to assess the need to place another, therefore the space will not close and you will not have to attend to another appointment.
